Avid team plans:

The new licence model explained

Everything you need to know about Avid’s new team licences

Avid have announced a new way to licence your Media Composer and Sibelius seats, making it easier for medium-sized teams to manage their licences and maintain visibility over who’s using what.

What is Avid team licensing?

Avid team licences are a new way for you to buy multiple seats of Media Composer or Sibelius under a single licence. You can ask an Avid partner like Jigsaw24 Media to bundle several Media Composer (or Sibelius) seats into a single team licence, meaning that you only have to pay one bill and remember one renewal date.

Why would I want to do that?

Well for one thing, it makes managing your payments much simpler – you only have to track one renewal date and payment.

But moving to an Avid team licence will also give your team leaders and tech staff access to new admin tools to simplify licence management and improve data security.

The staff member administering your account essentially buys a pool of Media Composer (or Sibelius) seats that they can assign to users, with one-click workflows for unassigning users (in which case they lose access to the product immediately) and reassigning them to new staff, so can be sure only current employees are using your licences and have access to your assets.

This ability to chop and change who a licence is assigned to is especially useful if you’re looking to add freelancers to your facility over the busy winter period, as it eliminates the risk a temporary staff member holding on to a licence you’re paying for long after they’ve gone.

How do I manage my Avid team licences?

All of this is done through a simple, web-based admin console, which you can access from your My Avid account anywhere you can connect to the internet. Being able to assign and recall licences whenever and wherever you need to will improve your ability to react to threats, bad actors and stolen or missing devices, too.

How are these licences distributed?

You don’t have to download anything at point of purchase. Once you buy your first team licence, a link to the admin console will appear on your MyAvid account page, and you can use that to assign licences to users. They’ll then receive an email prompting them to log in to or create a MyAvid account. Once logged in, they can download and run the software that you've assigned to them.

Which software is eligible for team licencing?

Team licences are currently available for Media Composer licences, Media Composer Ultimate licences and Sibelius Ultimate licences. As far as we know you can’t mix and match – if your facility needs a mixture of licences, you’ll need to make one Media Composer team plan purchase followed by a separate Media Composer Ultimate team plan purchase.

Can I consolidate my existing licences into a team licence?

No. At the moment you can’t crossgrade existing single licences to an Avid Team Plan. Your best bet is to purchase a team plan and transition users to it as their current subscriptions expire.

How many seats can I buy?

Each team licence can cover up to 100 seats.

What are my billing options?

You can either pay for your team licences in a single, annual payment or in monthly instalments. If you add a new seat part way through the year, the cost will be prorated and incorporated into any upcoming payments.
